Young Scholars Program Returns For Its Third Year

Now in its third year, the Young Scholars Program, an ACC Academic Cardiology Section initiative, continues to introduce bright high school and college students from around the country to careers in cardiology and scientific research. Students from the 2020-2021 class will present three abstracts during ACC.21, while this year's cohort will participate in a kickoff session on May 8 that features an introduction to cardiology and the College by ACC President Dipti Itchhaporia, MD, FACC. The 28 students will attend periodic webinars over the course of the next year and will be paired with an ACC member mentor who will guide them through a year-long research project. Safety permitting, the students will also have an opportunity to travel to an in-person "cardiac camp," where they'll spend a day learning from ACC members and another day getting a firsthand look at clinical practice in a hospital setting.
