The mission of the Academic Cardiology Section and Leadership Council is to advance US and global public health, in general and within the realm of cardiovascular diseases, by sustaining and advancing robust activities across the academic enterprise and across the life course, including research, education, mentorship and advocacy.

Section Initiatives

  • Collaborating with other organizations by building coalitions of CV associations across various specialty organizations, including CV subspecialty organizations, and positioning research and GME among high-priority advocacy issues
  • Projecting relative prevalence of various categories of life-threatening/debilitating CV diseases; predicting the direct and indirect costs and requirements for different specialties and subspecialties under various scenarios; projecting potential savings and cost-effectiveness based on incremental research investment, and the economic impact of maintaining or augmenting research and GME
  • Educating doctors the general public by joining the educational efforts of the AMCC, developing appropriate education materials, and participating in educational endeavors in both "academic" and "practice " communities
  • Advocating for CV issues by seeking sufficient appropriations and regulatory direction that allows for the sustainment of AMCs and their missions; Encouraging approaches to incentivize AMCs to improve their internal and external structure to function within the evolving healthcare environment; Assuming accountability by the academic community to improve efficiency and relevance of GME & research efforts, as well as cost-effectiveness of clinical care
