Dear ACPC Section Members,

On behalf of the Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology (ACPC) Member Section Leadership Council, I extend a warm welcome to all our existing and new section members. I am excited to update you about the many accomplishments of our section. Our council and work group members have not only been working tirelessly to improve the care of patients with congenital heart disease, but also on fostering the wellbeing and professional development of our section members. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, they are collaborating across the ACC to strengthen and expand our collective impact.

One of the new initiatives that I am thrilled about is the pilot program for Pediatrics and Med-Peds residents aimed at enhancing diversity in the congenital cardiology pipeline. Read More >>>

We hope to create similar opportunities to attract and support underrepresented groups in both pediatric and adult congenital cardiology. This unique program will introduce participants to a career in congenital cardiology by connecting them with mentors, peer networks and resources they need to understand career opportunities in our field. Sarah T. Plummer, MD, FACC, is leading this important effort.

Under the leadership of Kenneth M. Shaffer, MD, FACC, and Devyani Chowdhury, MBBS, FACC, our commitment to advocacy for patients and members remains strong. This work group addresses key issues such as health care disparities, access to care and workforce diversity. They are also leading efforts to reduce prior authorization requirements for congenital cardiology codes. The Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) work group has made significant progress under the direction of Ali N. Zaidi, MD, FACC, and Jordan Awerbach, MD, FACC. Members of this work group are working on advocacy efforts to increase access to quality care for ACHD patients. The shortage of ACHD providers is a pressing issue that demands our immediate attention.

Our Education work group Chairs, Susan P. Etheridge, MD, FACC, and Andrew J. Powell, MD, FACC, have a team of enthusiastic section members who bring us interesting cases each month to feature on ACC.org or DocMatter. This workgroup also coordinates activities for fellows during ACC's Annual Scientific Session. The Publications and Communication work group Chairs, Tarek Alsaied, MD, FACC, and Lasya Gaur, MD, continue to curate and disseminate diverse topics on the latest ACPC advancements, ensuring the ACC community remains at the forefront of knowledge and evidence-based practice.

The Quality work group led by Anitha Parthiban, MD, and Dr. Plummer continues their work on creating clinical care algorithms that are designed to provide a framework for care of common congenital heart lesions. The Artificial Intelligence Task Force led by Pei-Ni Jone, MD, FACC, is creating educational offerings to keep our section members updated on the forefront of innovation. The ACPC-WIC (Women in Cardiology) work group Chairs Jennifer Co-Vu, MD, FACC, and Audrey C. Marshall, MD, continue their efforts to enhance mentoring of women faculty and provide educational offerings to address the unique challenges faced by women in our field.

Thank you for your continued dedication to improving patient care through your work with the ACPC Member Section.
