On Sept. 11, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar revealed that newly proposed enforcement policy from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration would require flavored e-cigarette companies to take their products off the market within "about 30 days."

Azar stated that the enforcement policy will begin afterwards, and at that point, all flavored e-cigarettes will be required to be removed from the market, including mint and menthol.

This comes in response the recent e-cigarette epidemic among youth – which affects over 25 percent of high school students, according to new National Youth Tobacco Survey data.

In response to the decision, ACC President Richard J. Kovacs, MD, FACC, said "the ACC staunchly supports all efforts to reduce tobacco use, including the alarming rise in e-cigarette use among American youth. We applaud the Trump Administration's announcement that it will seek to ban all non-tobacco flavors of e-cigarettes. This is a welcome step in the right direction."
