Greeting a Special New Year

This new year is a special one for the ACC as we celebrate 75 years of serving as THE professional home for the cardiovascular community.

Since its founding in 1949 as part of the "The Golden Age of Cardiology," the College has evolved into a global cardiovascular leader, uniting more than 56,000 members spanning the entire cardiovascular care team around the shared Mission of transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health for all.

This month's cover story shares a look at ACC's legacy and some of its major milestones that have contributed to optimizing the care and outcomes of patients around the world. It also highlights key aspects of the College's new Strategic Plan that will guide us into the next 75 years and beyond.

Also in this issue, get up to speed on the new ACC/AHA guideline on atrial fibrillation management and find quick links to guideline derivatives aimed at helping implement the recommendations at the point of care. Guideline optimization has been a major ACC initiative over the last several years and the last several guidelines have benefitted from these efforts.

In addition, don't miss a closer look at the latest data from the Global Burden of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) collaboration, which includes updated health estimates on the global, regional and national burden of cardiovascular disease from 1990-2022. "JACC is excited to publish this 2023 Almanac as a dedicated issue of the journal to inform the realities of CVD risk and inspire strategies for a heart-healthy world," says Editor-in-Chief Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, MACC, who also served as an author of the paper.

In other features, explore the use of robotics in cardiovascular intervention and hear from William A. Gray, MD, FACC, and Kenneth Rosenfield, MD, MHCDS, FACC, about the implications of the national coverage decision expansion for carotid artery stenting on the management of atherosclerotic bifurcation carotid disease.

Also don't miss a countdown of the Top 10 advocacy and health policy "wins" from 2023. These success stories underscore the important role that advocacy plays in improving heart health and patient access to care.

Looking ahead, ACC.24 is coming soon – April 6 to 8 – in Atlanta. Register now and be sure to be there for the much-anticipated Late-Breaking Clinical Trials (LBCTs) and Featured Clinical Research, as well as a 75th anniversary celebration following Convocation.

Start planning your personalized program using the online program planner on ACCScientificSession.org, as well as explore abstracts, Keynotes and more. Be sure to check the meeting page at the end of January for this year's LBCTs and we'll be back in March with dedicated content to help with planning in the final weeks leading up to the meeting.

Enjoy this issue and welcome to 2024! As always, please send your thoughts and feedback to CardiologyEditor@acc.org.
