Coding Corner:
New Year, New Codes

A number of coding changes impacting cardiology are now in effect. The following are among the significant changes to keep in mind:

  • New E/M Code G2211: CMS implemented an HCPCS add-on code for "visit complexity inherent to evaluation and management associated with medical care services that serve as the continuing focal point for all needed health care services and/or with medical care services that are part of ongoing care related to a patient's single, serious condition or a complex condition." This code can be applied to the following office/outpatient services: 99202-99215.
  • Deleted HCPCS Code G2066: CMS deleted G2066 and added practice expense to existing CPT code 93297 and 93298 for interrogation device evaluations. The agency had created G2066 to report the technical component of insertable cardiac monitor and implantable loop recorder remote interrogation in 2020 after 93299 was deleted. The technical component is now assigned to 93297 and 93298.
