Guest Editorial | A Message From the ACC President: Advancing Science, Research and Innovation

At the ACC, our commitment to science, research and innovation has never been stronger. As we navigate the current dynamic environment, we reaffirm our dedication to protecting and advancing the critical role of scientific discovery, especially at academic institutions and medical centers where so much of today's research in the fight against cardiovascular disease occurs.
Cardiovascular disease does not recognize political affiliation, national borders, or any other divides. The ACC remains steadfast in our Mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health for all. We are committed to advancing science, providing evidence-based clinical guidance, and delivering cutting-edge education to empower clinicians and researchers worldwide.
Scientific discovery and innovation have brought us to a world in which treatment options now exist where none existed before. Pediatric patients with congenital heart disease are thriving into adulthood, our elderly population is living longer and healthier lives, and we are increasingly successful at preventing cardiovascular disease before it even manifests.
This progress results from relentless research, open and constructive exchange of ideas, and sustained investment in science. It is vital that this work continues. We are actively working to ensure that scientists and clinicians have the support necessary to pursue breakthroughs, challenge assumptions and advance care. Sustained funding for cardiovascular research and innovation is essential if we are to slow the burden of cardiovascular disease in the U.S. and globally.
As recently affirmed by the 10 editors-in-chief of our JACC Journals: "The search for knowledge is a journey. Not everything we publish will stand the test of time, but it will contribute to our search for truth and inform practice, policies, and discussions about promoting health." The ACC has always considered alternative points of view and concepts that challenge the status quo for publications and policy. This spirit of inquiry and dedication to transparency, scientific rigor and the continuous improvement of care for all patients underscores everything we do.
Please know that the ACC will continue to advocate for the principles that enable progress – scientific freedom, robust funding, open dialogue, and evidence-based policy. Our shared journey toward a world where science, knowledge and innovation optimize patient care and outcomes depends on it.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our Mission and to the patients and communities you serve. Together, we can ensure a healthier future for all.
