JACC: Advances Explores Wearable Biosensors in CHD, CV Contributions to Maternal Morbidity, South Asian American ASCVD Risk

The latest issue of JACC: Advances features a state-of-the-art review investigating the opportunity to improve congenital heart disease (CHD) care with wearable biosensors, including reflections on the various CHD physiologies, technical challenges in developing devices and considerations for digital biomarkers in CHD.

The issue also presents a state-of-the-art review on the impact of cardiovascular contributions like cardiac arrest, arrythmia and acute myocardial infarction on severe maternal morbidity, where Aarti Thakkar, MD, et al., "provide a framework of risk prediction clinical tools" and "highlight the need for organization of care to improve outcomes."

Rounding out the issue is an expert panel paper on the identification and management of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk in South Asian populations in the U.S.

REDUCE LAP-HF II: Similar Symptom Severity, Less Advanced Vascular Disease in Exercise-Induced vs. Resting Left Atrial Hypertension

Heart failure (HF) patients with exercise-induced left atrial hypertension (EILAH) appeared to have similar symptom severity but less advanced myocardial and pulmonary vascular disease when compared to patients with resting left atrial hypertension (RELAH), according to a study using data from the REDUCE LAP-HF II trial presented at THT 2023 and simultaneously published in JACC: Heart Failure.

Higher Rates of CPR, Defibrillation With More VRs to OHCA Before EMS

The rates of bystander CPR and defibrillation for out-of-hospital cardiac   arrest (OHCA) were higher when one or more volunteer responders   (VR) arrive before EMS, with rates of defibrillation increasing with the increasing number of responding VRs, according to a study published in JACC.

Cardiac Rehab Deserts Key Factor in Low Rates, Geographic Variation

The rates of initiating participation in a cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program continue to be low across the U.S., with a wide geographic variation in these rates, which was found to be related to poor access to a CR program, according to a study published in JACC.

Insights From the TriValve Registry: What is the Impact of TVG After Tricuspid TEER?

Increased discharge tricuspid valve gradient (TVG) is not significantly associated with adverse outcomes after tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER), according to a study presented at THT 2023 and simultaneously published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions.

ALT FLOW: APTURE Transcatheter Shunt System Found Safe in Symptomatic HF Patients

Left atrial to coronary sinus shunting using the APTURE transcatheter shunt system   was found to be safe in patients with symptomatic heart failure (HF), resulting in  reduction in pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) as well as improvement in HF symptoms and quality of life, according to findings from the ALT FLOW Early Feasibility Study, a single-arm, late-breaking clinical trial presented at THT 2023 and simultaneously published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions.
