Digital transformation is fundamental to improving efficiency and optimizing health and health outcomes. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI), digital health technology, mobile devices and other innovations – many of which are on display throughout ACC.23/WCC – provide a means to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease and may also hold the keys to addressing health equity and improving clinician well-being.

Examples of ways innovations in technology and society are impacting cardiovascular care, include telehealth and remote monitoring; the use of AI-based decision-support tools; and the prevalence and use of wearable technologies to aid in monitoring and prevention.

Look no further than the listing of ACC.23/WCC Late-Breaking Clinical Trials and Featured Clinical Research sessions to see how these innovations are changing practice, whether it's using "electronically delivered nudges" to increase flu vaccinations; applying causal AI to translate polygenic risk for coronary artery disease into clinically actionable information; making use of a registry to increase equitable access to point-of-care decentralized clinical trials; and more.

"If done correctly, digital transformation holds the answers to the future of cardiovascular care and achieving the College's Mission of truly transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health for all," says Dipti Itchhaporia, MD, MACC, past president of the ACC. "ACC.23/WCC provides a unique forum to see how this is playing out today as part of not only late-breaking trials, but dedicated poster sessions spotlighting innovation, digital health and technology, dynamic discussions on the Heart2Heart Stage, and don't forget the Expo, which is host to the Innovation Stage, Future Hub, Interactive Learning Labs, and companies on the cutting edge of digital transformation."

Digital transformation is not only important for the transformation of cardiovascular care, it's also crucial to the ACC as an organization. Advances in technology are changing how clinicians engage with the College as members and customers. They are also facilitating business process improvements that will drive more efficient operations and enhanced member service, and transforming the curation, management and delivery of ACC's clinical knowledge assets to its more than 56,000 members around the world.

As such, Digital Transformation has been a cornerstone of the overall ACC Strategic Plan and remains closely interconnected with several of the College's other major strategic initiatives, including NCDR Optimization, "Global ACCeleration" efforts, and remaining out front in delivering Actionable Knowledge.

In terms of its NCDR registries, the College is focused on modernizing reporting and revolutionizing the NCDR customer experience, both of which require an optimized technology platform and improved performance. On the global front, the ACC aspires to dramatically expand engagement of the global community through valuable online and digital initiatives like the free online NCD Academy and Global Quality Solutions.

When it comes to education, ACC.23/WCC provides a first-hand look at some of the many changes the College is making to meet the wide array of learning styles and needs of its members. Don't miss the new March Matchup venue featuring interactive debates and game-show-esque sessions; immersive simulation experiences in the personalized learning center; a six-channel virtual meeting experience and access to a revamped ACC Anywhere on-demand product; and much more.

"Without Digital Transformation, these and other initiatives cannot reach their full potential," says Cathleen Gates, ACC's CEO. "ACC leaders and staff are working diligently to modernize the College's internal systems and create and cultivate a digital-first ecosystem to provide trusted, timely and tailored knowledge and tools accessible across all touchpoints of cardiovascular care delivery."

According to Gates, members over the next few years can expect to see changes in the way they engage with the College, with improved access to content and tools, more personalized interactions, seamless user experiences, better member services and additional self-service capabilities, and enhanced networking opportunities.

Most importantly, these changes will make it easier for members to discover the ACC content and tools that are most beneficial to them, helping to unlock maximum value from their relationship with the ACC.
