Section Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Section and Section Leadership Council is aligned with the overall mission of the American College of Cardiology — to advance cardiovascular science and practice through research, education, clinical criteria and guidelines, and to influence healthcare policy.

The focus of the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Section and Section Leadership Council is on matters related to cardiovascular disease prevention including clinical practices, credentialing issues, government and third party payer relationships, research and funding, training, and continued medical education in all areas of cardiovascular disease prevention.

The Section serves as a point of identification and forum for its members within the ACC, and as a College-wide resource for issues in the interest area.

The Section Leadership Council reports to and is advisory to the Board of Trustees. The Council members will be appointed by the College President and include the following: Chair, chair-elect, and 10 members. Council members should be engaged in practice, research, teaching or administration related to cardiovascular disease prevention. Other candidate considerations would include expertise in genetics, behavioral medicine, and pediatric cardiovascular disease prevention. Involvement by Early Career members, Cardiovascular Team members, and Fellows in Training is strongly encouraged.

The Council serves as a voice for the Section, is comprised of a diverse representation of the interest area, understands the needs of its Section members, and engages them in relevant activities to meet those needs and advance the discipline. The Council will establish goals, objectives, performance metrics, and means to bring value to Section members. The Council will be a resource as needed for the College programs and initiatives relevant to the Section's areas of interest.
