Feature | ACC.19: Leaving Our Mark on the Local Community
As part of every Annual Scientific Session, the ACC is committed to reaching beyond the boundaries of the convention center and into the surrounding community. At ACC.19, this included the inaugural Young Scholars Program. This unique program – sponsored by the ACC Academic Section, ACC Louisiana Chapter and ACC Diversity and Inclusion Task Force – pairs high school and college students from Louisiana with Fellows in Training or Early Career members with the goal of providing a first-hand look at the cardiovascular profession.
In a related effort, ACC's Communications Team added Sasha Bourne, a high-school senior and aspiring journalist and physician, to its team at ACC.19. Here we share a portion of her essay about her experience and what it was like to be a part of a community as welcoming and enlightening as the ACC. For her full essay, visit ACC.org/Cardiology.
