Study Suggests TAVR Should Not Be Withheld in Older Patients With AS-CA
TAVR should not be withheld in older patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) and cardiac amyloidosis (CA), according to Christian Nitsche, MD, et al. based on new findings published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and presented during AHA 2020. The findings suggest AS-CA patients have "worse functional capacity, cardiac remodeling pre-procedure, and a trend towards worse prognosis" if not treated with TAVR, but similar outcomes as patients with AS, but not CA, if TAVR is performed.
Is High CV Health in Young Adulthood Associated With Lower Risk of CVD, Death?
High cardiovascular health (CVH) in late adolescence/young adulthood was associated with very low rates of premature cardiovascular disease and mortality over 32 years, based on findings from the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults study presented during AHA 2020 and simultaneously published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Study Looks at Elective PCIs in ASC Setting
There may be no difference between patients undergoing elective PCI in the hospital outpatient department vs. ambulatory surgery center (ASC) for a composite of 30-day myocardial infarction (MI), bleeding complications and hospital admission, however the risk for bleeding complications may be higher in the ASC setting, according to research published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions and presented during AHA 2020.
Study Finds Pre-Pregnancy HTN Doubled in Past Decade
Pre-pregnancy hypertension in both rural and urban settings has nearly doubled over the past decade, and disparities persist, according to research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and presented at AHA 2020.
